Software licenses govern the use and distribution of computer software. Software is usually protected by copyright, with the exception of public domain software.

There are generally three types of computer software licenses: proprietary software licenses, free software licenses and open source software licenses. Proprietary licenses grants the use of the software to the end user yet maintaining ownership of the software. Free software licenses grant, by default, all rights according to copyright law to the software copy’s owner yet still maintain the copyright to the software itself. Open source licenses grant permissive licenses, which offers the user freedom to use the software in almost any way they please, including modifications or reverse engineering.

When proprietary computer software is purchased, licensing is often an essential contracting term of agreement between the software’s publisher and the user of the software. This contract is often referred to as the End User License Agreement (EULA).

Computer software licensing is protects the software’s copyright. For example, for proprietary software, licensing prevents the user from duplicating the software (other than for backup purposes), installing the software on multiple computers, editing the software’s code, or significantly modifying the program. Software licenses may also make statements that attempt to prevent pirating by restricting reverse engineering.

In addition, computer software licensing is used as a disclaimer. The majority of EULA contracts state that the software publisher will not hold liability for any unforeseen circumstances that may arise from the use of the software, including data loss, time or usage, or computer breakdowns.

Most software licensing agreements are embedded into the software itself and can be accepted or declined during installation. Should the EULA be declined, the computer software installation is aborted. However, some publishers hold the agreement that once the software’s outer casing has been broken, the end user automatically accepts the license. This has been highly debated in courts to various measures, with the argument that a user does not have the ability to review the EULA until the product has been opened. However, in certain cases where an open product is not returnable, the agreement has been known to be forced upon the user by some courts.

Although computer hardware has evolved significantly to an extent where problems are rare if they do in fact happen, we should be ready to handle the situation ourselves to a certain level as most of the time there is a very basic reason behind the issues. This means a call to tech support/technician may not always be required. This article will discuss a few common problems a computer user may encounter in their day-to-day operations.

It would be difficult for a nonprofessional or a basic computer user to understand the reasons behind any hardware issues and hence we should understand the problems first, diagnose, and troubleshoot accordingly. Listed below are a few common problems that appear with computer hardware.

Starting problem: In case you are not able to start the system, you should first look at the power supply of the compute. If all the wires are connected properly, then replace the power cable with another cable to see if the cable is damaged. If you still have the problem, the SMPS-Switched Mode Power Supply seems to be not working properly and you will need to contact a technician for a replacement.

Abrupt shutdown: There may be various reasons behind this, mostly contributed to software issues. However, if you have already checked that and know for sure that your software is not the culprit, then consider that there are possible issues with the computer hardware that may be causing this. The most common reason behind abnormal shutdown is overheating of your computers processor. In addition, the reasons behind this could be a non-functional fan in the unit. You can simply check the fans working condition on the backside of the CPI (in the case of a desktop) or you can use software to tell you if the system is overheating. After you have made sure these are working properly and problem still exists, you should check on any additional hardware you might have added to the system recently and incompatibility can be a reason behind overheating. For any other computer hardware problems, you should check the device manager if any of the hardware devices is not working properly and that can help you troubleshoot to a greater extent.

Updating your computer is crucial as it helps your computer to run as smoothly as it can. The updates are patches to the current computer software programs, and they are there to help improve and fix bugs, enhance features and to give your computer better security. For example, both Macintosh and Windows operating systems are regularly given updates by various manufactures. These updates can be easily installed by the Software Update that is on your operating system.

For Mac Users

Click on the icon Apple, allocated on the top left corner of your desktop, then go to System Preferences, located down the list. Once it’s clicked, a window for the System Preferences should now pop up.

Under System, click on the icon Software Update. Then Click on the button Update Now. Once you have clicked on the Software Update button the window will now open with the available list of updates for your computer. If you do not wish to update all the computer software programs right now, you can always leave it for later. All you need to do is just click on the check box that is next to the program that you want to update. Depending on how many you have chosen it could take a couple of minutes or longer.

Click on the Install button. Once you have clicked on install, a pop up window will be displayed asking you to type in your administration user name with your password for your computer. This step is necessary for the process of updating. When your computer asks you will now need to restart your computer to ensure that the overall installation process on your Mac is complete. Once you have restarted your computer, all the computer software programs that you have asked to be updated, will now be up to date with the latest features. This now means that your computer and computer software will work more efficiently.

With the rapidly changing technology and various innovations in computer hardware, it becomes obvious for every computer user to move from one system to another with their upgraded or new hardware. The most critical transaction here is the secure, safe, and reliable movement of the data from the old system to the new one. In addition, it can go bad when the volume of data is very large.

Although there are many ways of handling this, given technology & resources is through imaging of your data. There are various types of Imaging Software available on the market. Many times a good one can be selected easily with a little research.

Make sure to buy Imaging Software and create backup images for the entire data on the current Hard Disk Drive that you would like to move to the new system. Images created are safest way to move data as the software takes care of data allocation along with their properties assigned. Once you have created backup images of the data from your older system, store them all on DVD’s.

Now you need to restore the backup images to the new computer hardware system. This again is a simple task and you will need the Imaging software for this. Install the Imaging Software and copy all the DVD’s content to the new system. Once you have all the backup images on your new system, use the Imaging Software to restore the data on to the new hard disk extracted from the backup image files.

This is the best and secure way of moving data, yet there is another simple solution to it. You can simply copy the entire data from the existing system to an external hard disk drive and store it back from the external drive to the new computer hardware system. This may be simpler than using the Imaging software but it involves risk of losing various settings and at times even the data in case of bad sectors in the external hard disk drive. Overall, using Imaging software for transferring data from one system to another computer hardware system is the best option.

If you have always been a PC user, and have recently changed to a Macintosh computer, then you know that installing new computer software can be a bit confusing. The difficult part about installing programs onto a Mac is that most of the applications need to be manually placed into the correct folder for it to be installed correctly.

To start, turn on your Mac computer by the using the power button, this is usually located on the back of the computer screen, on the left-hand side at the bottom. If you find that you don’t have a disc and you wish to download an application, you can always download for free one of the many applications from the Internet. When you have, downloaded your application ensure that you have downloaded it to your desktop, because you will have to drag and drop it into the destination file when installing. To move the application, click and drag the program to the destination folder, and then release the mouse when done.

Next open the Finder application, which is normally located at the bottom of your left hand screen either on your tool bar, or your desktop. Then click on the applications folder, which is located under the heading Places on the left-hand side of the pop up window. Drag the file and drop it into the Applications folder. Once this step has been complete, the computer software will now be properly installed. If this is a computer software that you plan to use regularly, having it on your systems dock/tool bar may be beneficial. What you need to do is drag this file onto the systems dock/tool bar at the bottom of your screen, allowing you to access the program. When you need to use the program, just click on it.

With so many laptop brands on the market today, it is a little confusing when it comes time to make an informed decision that will give a person the type of results that they need from a computer the biggest decision will be that of what laptop is right for you.

Although the cheaper laptops perform with a decent amount of reliability they tend to be bad on their battery life because of not so good parts that are used in the making of the battery. The first thing that you need to make sure that you do, is, ensure a minimum of 2-3 hours battery life before making a decision.

Another important aspect is the screen size of the laptop. Although this varies for different users based on, their specific needs like a graphic extensive computer monitor, this will require a larger screen with an excellent display but a moderate business user will be happy with a 13 inch screen display as this will not only reduce the cost but also make the laptop lighter in weight and easy to carry.

Next aspect to consider is the connectivity features. Buy one with an internal modem and with a high-speed Ethernet port. RAM is one of the more important components and hence requires good consideration as well. A minimum of 2GB RAM is required for many laptops nowadays and often times the higher the better. getting the latest configuration will let you use your laptop for a longer period without requiring you to upgrade soon.

Choose the right Hard Disk Drive based on your needs; however, it must not be less than 250 GB even for basic computer users.

You can, based on the above-discussed considerations, compare various products in the market with the affordable and competitive price tags and pick the best. Happy buying!

With the increasing demand and rapidly growing technology, large computer screens or monitors have seen significant drop in price. For instance, the price for a 21-inch monitor is reduced down in price to $600-$1200 which is a drop from $1500-$2000. In addition, the size of the monitor is increasing everyday like the one measuring 24” has become common in use.

Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) has gained huge popularity in recent years and most of the market analysts have a prediction that LCD will replace CRT in less than 5 years from now at least for those being bought new. There are several benefits that LCD screens offers in comparison to traditional CRT monitors except they are highly priced, which again is understandable because of the latest technology used. In addition, we all know as the demand will go up, the price will automatically go up rapidly.

The most important benefit of an LCD screen is it has significantly low radiation emissions that enable the monitor to be used in the environments sensitive to the radiation like hospitals. Another disadvantage of the CRT is its heavy weight with the increase in size. A 21” CRT monitor can be triple the weight of an LCD of the same size.

Another visual advantage of LCD monitors is the quality of image it produces. Because of LCD’s cell level picture display, it has almost no flicker and very clear display quality. Because of cells placement per pixel, LCD monitors are costly to produce and hence the higher price. With the technological advancement and increasing demands, an LCD monitor will also offer competitive pricing structures in near future.

Viruses can be a real annoyance for many people, as they can easily attach themselves to any file on your computer and destroy it. These viruses can slow your computer down and may even lock up your applications on the computer. many viruses on your computer can cause your computer to act irrationally and do many things that you have not asked it to do. If you have experienced this problem, then you need to act fast, and remove all the viruses that are on your computer. Here, are some tips to help fix your computer problems.

Search for computer software programs, that will help eliminate the viruses on your computer. When researching, look for programs that are five star, and have strong, positive feedback from previous buyers. It is best to avoid anti virus computer software that is free, as it may not be a reputable computer program to use for your computer. It is always best to buy your anti-virus software, to avoid any further problems.

If you bought the computer software from a store, then insert the CD in your disk drive and follow the directions that is provided for you. Watch the instructions, and find the software’s icon, so that you can put the icon on the desktop. Double click on the icon, to get yourself used to the program that you are using. To begin the procedure of checking for viruses, you need to click on Start Scan on your screen. This scan may take an hour or more to complete depending on the size of your hard drive.

Once the scan has completed the computer software will create a report that will list all the programs and files that have been scanned. It will also tell you how many have been infected, and what you need to do about it. Most of the programs will delete the offender or quarantine them. However, there are times where you will need to complete the action yourself. To avoid regular viruses, you should scan your computer every couple of weeks.

A Mac PC has very different computer hardware components as compared to the usual Windows PC. In addition, because of it being not used so widely and only by selected people; it is not common knowledge of how to maintain a Mac PC. Here are a few suggestions to have your MAC PC produce greater performance.

Unlike windows PC, a Mac PC uses space on hard disk drive in addition to RAM as virtual memory in the instances where the actual memory is not sufficient and hence it is suggested to keep some space free on your hard drive, 10% free space for this should be fine. The Operating System of a Mac PC comes pre-installed with support to hundreds of languages. Optimize this as per your specific needs of language support and remove unused languages to free extra space.

Remove unwanted applications to free some more disk space by scanning through the software installed and analyzed all that you require. For example, if you are not a photo-editor or you do not do much with images except viewing them, it will be a right idea to remove Photoshop and keep lighter software for viewing your images. Mac PC comes with two-software build from Intel: Rosetta and Universal. Rosetta occupies a huge amount of space and is not optimized for better performance; hence, it is suggested to change the settings to universal. For enhanced performance, free some RAM memory as well by removing/disabling some default software like Dock Animation, Animated Desktop etc.

Your Mac PC comes with many widgets that utilize processor all the time and hence you should try uninstalling those widgets that are not in use. Alternatively, you can decide based on the memory and processing power each of widget is utilizing. Make this a habit to clear your cache often to have better performance. In addition, the AutoFill builds up the temporary information log and needs clearing on a regular interval.
